The list below contains a variety of organisations some of which are specifically Geographical, but also some which provide information of interest to Geographers.Let me know of any which you have found useful and I will include them in the next update.
National Curriculum Geography - your online copy of the National Curriculum Geography document.
British Educational Communications and Technology agency [ BECTa] formerly known as The National Council for Educational Technology [N.C.E.T.]. Plus the National Grid for Learning [NGfL] site. Both sites will take you to the Virtual Teacher Centre [VTC]
The National Geographic Magazine on-line - full of information, photos and maps.
Commonwealth - everything you ever wanted to know (and more) about the Commonwealth countries
Staffordshire Learning Net - every local authority should take a look here - an excellent support site for Geography teachers - they welcome people from other parts of the UK too!
Government - a link to all the UK Government departments - interesting but not a lot of information available compared to the equivalent USA Government sites
Local Councils online - useful if you want local information, some are better than others. Try the Kent site which is good.
Kent County Council - an good example of the kind of information councils could provide about their counties through the Internet.
The Stationary Office [H.M.S.O.] - a link to the Stationary Office and various publications
UN - The United Nations Homepage - statistics section and other useful information
FAO - the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation - statistics and information on a range of topics
OECD - a variety of information on a large range of countries from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
Anglian Water - until recently, one of the few useful water authority links. Good on further links but lacking in education material compared to the three sites below.
Severn Trent Water - an excellent set of water resources aimed at education. The site is short on visual material but contains detailed and well written text.
South West Water - a schools page with a wide ranging set of resources produced by Exeter University for SW Water and aimed at 8 - 13 year olds.
Bristol Water - a small company that has made a serious attempt to develop a wide range of water resources for education. The site is still growing but is already well worth a look.
