Geography logo Revision Topic: Rivers Photo 10
This photo shows a classic scene with a river flowing across a wide, flat flood plain. Erosion on the outsides of the bends has moved the meanders closer and closer together so that only a narrow neck of land now exists. When the river floods, there is a real risk that it will take a shortcut across the narrow neck of land, abandon the section of river in the foreground and create an ox-bow lake.
