General Statistical Links
The list below contains a variety of links to sites with general statistical information. Some of it is very detailed. Most of it is pretty up-to-date and therefore has an advantage over books with statistical data.
- USA Census - statistics on all countries from the United States Census.
- UK Statistics - statistics from the National Statistical Service.
- The IDB Page - a US Census site, full of very useful population information on every country.
- Country Data - a useful site with a range of data on different countries.
- Institute of Hydrology - an interesting site with a growing amount of data. You can also contact them by e-mail or snail-mail for further data.
- Statistical Yearbook - a good site with relatively fresh data (up to 1996).
- CIA World Factbook (1998) - the most famous (infamous)of all the data sources - recently updated - it is very detailed and is therefore useful but beware of some very long printouts if you are not selective.
- Central and S.America - a site with information on 24 Central and South American countries.
- OECD - statistics from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
- World and Country Statistics - World and Country Statistics from Infoplease.
- Climate Statistics - Climate data for 000's of cities worldwide. An excellent source of data.
- Global Trends - U.N. educational site with data on global trends, city profiles, country data, etc.
- Atlapedia - information on every country in the world!
- Geographia - information on a wide range of countries.
- Global Statistics - an excellent site which looks at lots of different topics and ranks the data e.g. longest rivers, largest countries, highest mountains, companies with the biggest profits, highest birth rates, etc..

Links to specific country data
There are hundreds of country links. They are variable in quality. Some are specifically Geographical, others provide a wide range of political, historical, sociological data/information. Many of the embassy links cater for travellers only, but a few provide a much wider range of useful information. Some have specific education links - the Brazilian Embassy sets the standard!

Guardian's Egypt (nothing to do with the newspaper!) - a comprehensive site with everything you ever wanted to know about Egypt. It is biased towards historical topics but includes some modern Geography. It also includes some fun items such as having your name converted to hieroglyphs.

Odyssey In Egypt - an American site for children linked to an archaeological dig in Egypt. In between the archaeology tales, are lots of good Geography pages written at a simple enough level for KS3.Topics include:
