You are standing next to St.Mary's church looking E.N.E. towards the rock groyne in the previous photo. This picture taken in March 1999, shows the work being done to repair the coastal defences. Such schemes take many months to complete and are usually done during the winter months when few people use the area. The work is organised by the Environment Agency (the government body which has responsibility for sea-defence work) and Canterbury City Council. The last such scheme in 1995/96 cost £4.5 million.
