Hurricane Mitch:Maps of Hurricane Track

Map showing the track and status of Hurricane Mitch. It starts as Tropical Cyclone 13, changes to a Tropical Depression, then a Tropical Storm before becoming Hurricane Mitch on the 24th September 1998. When it hits land on the 29th September, it is quickly downgraded to a Tropical Storm, then a Tropical Depression before becoming a humble low pressure system. When it moves out over the sea, it regains some energy and is upgraded one more time as it heads towards Florida as a Tropical Storm.

This second map also shows the track and status of Hurricane Mitch. It confirms the unusual westerly origin of the hurricane deep inside the Caribbean Sea and the fact that the remnants of the storm travel all the way across the Atlantic and finish up somewhere to the north of the UK.

If you would like more detail about the track of the hurricane, download a free tracking map from the National Hurricane Centre in Miami and then use the 'track button' to get the actual track data.
